An elderly couple and their daughter were killed on Tuesday when a portion of an old three-storey building in Burrabazar area collapsed, a fire service official said.
A portion of the residential building at 16 Shibtala Street collapsed around 11.30 a.m., following which police and fire service officials rushed to the spot.
The injured couple, Taraprasanna Saha (94) and his wife Sandharani Saha (84), and their daughter were pulled out from under the debris and rushed to state-run Calcutta Medical College Hospital here.
"Taraprasanna Saha was declared brought dead. His wife and their daughter Beauty Roy (56) were admitted in critical condition and succumbed to injuries later," Kolkata Police Additional Commissioner (Headquarters) Supratim Sarkar said.
Local MLA and Trinamool Congress leader Smita Bakshi visited the spot and claimed that building residents refused to leave even after it was declared dangerous by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation.
