Eleven crew members went missing after two vessels collided and one ship sank in the waters off Hong Kong's Po Toi island Monday, maritime authorities said.

Chinese mainland cargo ship, Zhong Xing 2, sank after colliding with another cargo ship around 2.30 a.m. local time. Twelve crewmen fell into the sea and one of them, a 47-year-old mainland man, was later picked up by a passing fishing boat, Xinhua reported citing the Hong Kong maritime department.

The Chinese ship was carrying cement from Hebei province to Haikou in Hainan province when it collided with the 300-metre Marshall Islands-registered container ship, MOL Motivator, which was leaving Hong Kong for Guangdong.

Three fireboats and a Government Flying Service helicopter from Hong Kong were involved in the operation.
