Rapper Eminem was honoured with the artist of the year trophy at the YouTube awards here.
The first edition of the YouTube awards, which was streamed live on the video sharing website, was held here Sunday. More than 16 million people voted, and Eminem grabbed the prize, reports contactmusic.com.
He was up against fellow artists Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, One Direction, Psy, Epic Rap Battles of History, and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.
Nominees were selected on the basis of YouTube views, likes, comments and subscription figures for different artists.
Swift's song "I knew you were trouble" won the YouTube Phenomenon award, while YouTube personality, musician and comedian DeStorm Power won the Innovation of the Year prize.
Macklemore and Ryan Lewis received the Breakthrough of the Year award for their new anthem "Same love".
The event also saw a performance by Lady Gaga on her new single "Dope".
