Emirates suspends flights over Egypt after Russian plane crash

Emirates Airline, the state-owned carrier of the emirate of Dubai, on Sunday said it will suspend flights across Egypt's Sinai peninsula till further notice following the crash of a Russian airliner which left 224 people dead.

Emirates, as well as Dubai's state-owned budget flyer flydubai have stopped flying over Egypt's Sinai, Xinhua reported.

A spokesperson of Emirates, the biggest carrier in the Middle East, said the airline decided to avoid flying over the Sinai peninsula till "more information" about the cause of the crash is available.

Emirates usually flies over Sinai on routes to the Middle East and North Africa.

European carrier Lufthansa of Germany and Air France also said on Saturday they would avoid crossing Sinai skies.

All 217 passengers and the seven crew members of Kogalymavia Flight 9268 were killed in the crash on Saturday. The black box of the Russian plane has been found.
