Union Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Sunday appealed to the processed food industry to ensure supply of milk, food and bottled water for residents of rain-hit Chennai, an official here said.
"Along with the central and Tamil Nadu governments, the industry should ensure there is no shortage of milk, packaged food articles and bottled water for the people of Chennai," the minister said.
The minister held a meeting here to review the situation in flood-affected Chennai and contribution of essential items by processed food manufacturers, the union food processing ministry said in a release here.
The release said Nestle India supplied 10 tonnes of noodles and 5,000 litres of tetra-pack milk and 50,000 pouches of coffee to the flood-hit city. Approximately 25 to 30 tonnes of noodles, about eight tonnes of wafers and 800 kg of biscuits were also being supplied.
ITC supplied 3,163 boxes of biscuits while MTR supplied about 14,128 ready-to-eat food packets. Another 35,000 ready-to-eat food packets would be delivered by Monday.
Britannia supplied 345 boxes of biscuits on Sunday and two truckloads of other food items.

Coca-Cola India supplied 50,000 one-litre water bottles while Pepisco supplied another 12,000 one-litre water bottles.
The release said Parle was making arrangements to send three truckloads of biscuits to the southern metropolis.
