A former official from Hubei province was expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and dismissed from public office for corruption and violating the code of conduct, authorities said on Monday.
Liu Shanqiao, former chairman of the People's Political Consultative Conference, acted against a CPC probe and took bribes to help people gain promotions, reports Xinhua news agency.
He failed to report personal information accurately and traded power and money for private interests, the statement said.
Liu took advantage of his post to seek profits for others and accepted vast properties.
His illegal gains will be confiscated and Liu's case has been transferred to the judiciary.
A probe against Liu was initiated in June.
