A retired soldier and another man were arrested in Meghalaya for possessing 11 grams of smuggled heroin, police said Saturday.
"Thangboi Vaiphei, a retired havildar of the Assam Regiment and Lalsawmliana Hmar were arrested from different areas of Shillong late Friday night by district anti-narcotic task force," said Additional Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem.
The heroin smuggled from Myanmar was meant to be marketed in Shillong, the state capital of Meghalaya, police said.
Syiem said a team raided the houses of Vaiphei and Hmar and recovered 11 grams of fine quality heroin concealed in small tins.
"We seized nine grams of heroin concealed in small tobacco tins from the residence of Hmar and another two grams of heroin also concealed in the small tins from Vaiphei," Syiem said, refusing to divulge further details.
A trial court sent both the accused for five days police custody.
