Though cash withdrawals at automated teller machines (ATM) are convenient, the risk of non-delivery of cash continues to haunt customers, the banking ombudsman said here Wednesday.

N. Krishna Mohan, the banking ombudsman for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, told reporters here that there have been instances of cash not being dispensed by ATMs after the feeding of the necessary data by account holders.

He said 29 percent of the complaints to the ombudsman relate to ATM/debit/credit cards, cloning of cards, internet banking frauds, and banks have been asked to have real-time fraud monitoring systems.

He said the number of complaints last year in the two states went up by four percent to 4,477.

On the disposal of complaints, Mohan said last fiscal 4,803 complaints (including 568 from the previous year) were examined, of which 918 were found non-maintainable.
