Relatives of the 150 people who died in this week's Germanwings plane crash placed flowers at a plaque unveiled in memory of the deceased.

The families, most of them from Spain and Germany, travelled on Thursday from Marseille to the southwestern French village of Le Vernet, close to the site where the tragedy took place, Spanish news agency Efe reported.

The Airbus A320 went down on Tuesday while en route from Barcelona in Spain to Dusseldorf in Germany. The prosecutor in charge of the case says it appears that co-pilot Andreas Lubitz deliberately crashed the plane after the captain left the cockpit.

Lubitz, 27, joined Lufthansa's low cost subsidiary in 2013, after having successfully passed all his exams.

German newspaper Bild, however, reported that he was under psychiatric treatment for six months before he completed training.
