With day temperatures hovering around the eight degrees Celsius mark, the spectators had little respite from the cold breeze speepping the ground.
Even the players on the field constantly had their hands in their pockets and wore woollen jumpers to keep the cold away.
One fan, who came from Faridabad, said that he had to leave his house in the early hours of the morning and brave the cold to reach the stadium on time.
"I left my house at eight in the morning so that I could reach here on time. It was so cold that I carried an extra jacket. The cold didn't subside even in the afternoon," Amit Kumar, a BPO employee, told IANS.
"Lot of people here are covered from head to toe. The only way to keep the cold out has been the constant jumping and screaming. But I don't mind all this. After all, we rarely get to see India take on Pakistan in our own backyard," he said.
