A farmer committed suicide in Jharkhand after a bank official refused to let him withdraw his money due to a pending loan, police said on Thursday.
The incident took place in Chotki Khargdih village of Giridih district on Wednesday night.
Kailashpati Rana, 50, had an account with the Bank of India. On Wednesday, he went to withdraw Rs 4,000 that his son had transferred into his account, according to police.
But a bank official did not release the amount saying his Rs 35,000 loan was pending and adjusted the money against the loan, family members said. According to them, he was also humiliated by the bank official.
The Giridih administration has set up a team to probe the incident.
This year, seven farmers have committed suicide in Jharkhand -- the highest number since the state was created.
