Farmers' suicide: Jharkhand government announces Rs 2 lakh compensation

The Jharkhand government on Wednesday announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the families of each of the farmers who committed suicide in the state.

Three farmers committed suicide due to debt burden in Ranchi during last month.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das had announced compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the kin of each of the farmers who recently committed suicide in the state due to financial crisis.

The compensation, announced in the 20-point programme execution committee meeting, would be paid from the Chief Minister's Discretionary Fund.

The Chief Minister said the state-level committee of the 20-point programme would be known as the committee of commitment.

He said during the meeting that the administration at the state, district and block levels should be answerable to people.
