Portugal's new football coach Fernando Santos will be allowed to sit on the bench for the Denmark-Portugal Euro2016 qualifier Tuesday night after FIFA suspended his eight-game ban, the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) said on its website.
"Naturally I'm happy with the decision, but that is not the most important thing or the most significant thing. The most important part is the players. They are the ones that win games. I have full confidence in them, whether or not I am on the bench," Santos said at a press conference after the pre-event training in Copenhagen.
The new coach, who was previously the Greece coach, was subject to an eight international game ban imposed by FIFA after he was sent off during Greece's match against Costa Rica in the World Cup.
In relation to the Denmark game Santos said, "We want to get the three points that are available. This does not mean less respect for Denmark, but rather a lot of confidence in our capabilities. We know what Denmark is very good at but we also know the aspects in which they are not so strong."
