FIFA president Gianni Infantino has said that he was "shocked and terribly saddened" by the suicide bombing targeted at a football stadium in the Iraqi city of Iskanderiyah, south of Baghdad, where at least 30 people were killed and 95 wounded.
In a statement on FIFA website on Saturday, Infantino extended his "deepest condolences to the victims' families", reports Efe.
Infantino pointed out that football "unites people" around the world, and added: "It is a very sad day when people, going to a match together, become the victims of such violence."
An official from Iraqi police said that a suicide bomber cut through the crowd and detonated the explosives-laden vest he was wearing inside the stadium, where a local match was being played.
The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the attack.
