Five candidates filed their nominations Saturday, the first day of filing nomination papers for the Haryana assembly elections.
None of the candidates who filed their nominations were from major political parties. Four of them were independents. One candidate was from the Aarakshan Virodhi Party.
Haryana Chief Electoral Officer Shrikant Walgad said that the last date for filing nomination papers is September 27.
There are 90 assembly seats in the state.
While the opposition Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have announced some candidates, the ruling Congress is yet to come out with its first list (till 8 p.m. Saturday).
The scrutiny of nomination papers would be carried out on Sep 29 and candidates would be able to withdraw their candidature by Oct 1.

The polling will be held on Oct 15 and counting of votes would be held on Oct 19.
The election process would come to an end by Oct 25, Walgad added.
