Known for its re-interpretations of classic texts, Britain's Filter Theatre starts on Tuesday an eight-city tour of India with a contemporary take on Shakespearean comedy 'Twelfth Night'.

The first show of the production - described by the organisers as "one of the most exciting and accessible Shakespeare productions of recent years" - is going to be staged at the British Council here.

There will be another staging of the play in New Delhi on Wednesday before the company travels to Chandigarh, Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Hyderabad, Goa, and Mumbai, in that order, ending with the last show on December 18.

Filter Theatre are performing for the first time in India.

"This is a reimagining of 'Twelfth Night' which makes it accessible to modern day audiences," said Rob Lynes, director of British Council, which has brought the theatre company to India.

Each show will be of 90 minutes duration with no interval.
