The Congress on Friday said there was a need to find where the problems in Kashmir started, stressing that it was the only state to collectively reject the two-nation theory in 1947.

Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad, who is also a former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, also said that while the government's response was fine, they would be satisfied only when peace is restored in the Kashmir Valley.

"Kashmiri Muslims were first to reject the two-nation theory. The constituent assembly of Jammu and Kashmir declared itself an integral part of India. We must together go to the root from where the problem started," Azad said while talking to journalists after an all-party meet here on Kashmir.

"If there is a mistake we must correct it," he said.

Asked if he was satisfied with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's response, Azad said: "We will be satisfied when peace is restored."

Quoting former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Azad said he urged the government to find a solution.

Singh, in his speech at the meeting, said their government made serious efforts to resolve issues in Kashmir, adding that he recognised his government did not totally succeed.

"It is the government's duty to prepare a road map to solve the Kashmir issue," Singh said.
