A fire broke out on Thursday in over a century old Makaibari tea garden, famous for producing an exotic variety of the world famous Darjeeling tea.
Fire brigade sources said 70 per cent of the tea garden bungalow located in Kurseong of northern West Bengal's Darjeeling district was devastated in the blaze, which was first noticed at 2 p.m.
Three fire engines rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control after a four-and-a-half hour struggle.
The fire brigade personnel suspect a short circuit led to the fire.
