A fire has devastated a medicine godown at Rajarhat in the northeastern fringes of Kolkata, fire department officials said on Wednesday.
Residents spotted the flames on the first floor of the two-storeyed godown and informed the fire department around 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
Ten fire-tenders pressed into service brought the flames under control around 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
"It was a devastating fire. There were a lot of combustible articles. So it took us long to douse it," a fireman said.
The cause of the fire and the degree of damage were yet to be ascertained.
