India's fiscal deficit during April-October 2016 touched 79.3 per cent of the budgeted figure or Rs 4.24 lakh crore, as per the figures released by the Controller General of Accounts (CGA) on Wednesday.
According to CGA data, the fiscal deficit -- difference between revenue and expenditure -- for the April-October period touched Rs 4.24 lakh crore as against the budget estimates of Rs 5.34 lakh crore for the 2016-17 fiscal.
As against total government receipts of Rs 7.27 lakh crore, the total expenditure (plan and non-plan) was Rs 11.51 lakh crore.
Of the total receipts, the tax revenue was Rs 5.30 lakh crore.
The revenue deficit for the period under review stood at Rs 3.28 lakh crore, which is 92.6 per cent of the budget estimates.
