Mexico City, April 29 (IANS/EFE) At least five people were killed and two wounded in a shootout between vigilantes and gunmen in the western Mexican state of Michoacan over the weekend, media reports said.
Ten gunmen were detained following the shootout Sunday in Chuquiapan, a town near the port city of Lazaro Cardenas, the El Universal newspaper reported on its website citing spokesmen for the community self-defence groups.
Vigilantes were attacked by armed individuals posing as members of a community self-defence group, setting off a 25-minute shootout, the spokesmen told the newspaper.
Four people died at the spot and a fifth person died while being taken to a hospital.
