Welcoming India's first rail-auto transportation and logistics hub as proposed by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu in his rail budget for 2016-17 presented on Thursday, leading automobile manufacturer Ford India said the hub would greatly help auto manufacturers based in south India.
"The announcement of rail auto hub in Chennai, therefore, is significant and would help southern auto original equipment manufacturers (OEM) to improve their logistical multimodal efficiencies significantly," said company in a statement.
"The auto hub will encourage transportation of cars through railways, thereby offering a greener logistical solution through decongestion of road traffic," it added.
