American automobile major Ford Motor Company will invest Rs 1,300 crore ($195 million) in setting up a new global technology and business centre near here and also increase the head count by 3,000, said a top company official here on Tuesday.
The proposed facility will serve as a hub for product development, mobility solutions and business services for India and other markets around the world.
"Ford has invested over $2 billion in India. We will open Ford Global Technoloyg and Business Centre here. This will be our third global product development centre in the Asia Pacific region," Ford Motor Company Executive Chairman Bill Ford told reporters here.
He said the company will increase headcount by 3,000 people over the next five years and would be deployed at Ford's business and technology centres.
"Chennai will be the second largest IT development centre for Ford," he added.
The proposed facility to come up on 28 acre plot near here is expected to be completed by early 2019.

With 12,000 employees in total, the Chennai facility will become ford's second lagest centre of employment globally after Dearborn, Michigan in the US.
