Foreign senior citizens' fare concession discontinued: Railways

According to the ministry, the fare concession will only be granted to senior citizens of Indian nationality, permanently residing in India

Indian Railways on Monday said it has discontinued fare concession facility for foreign senior citizens and non-resident Indians (NRIs).

"It has been clarified that senior citizen concession shall not be admissible to the senior citizen of foreign nationals and NRIs," the Railway Ministry said.

According to the ministry, the fare concession will only be granted to senior citizens of Indian nationality, permanently residing in India.

The concession on passenger fare is applicable to senior citizens of age 60 years and above for men and 58 years and above in case of women. Men are given a concession of 40 per cent, while 50 per cent concession is given to women.
