Former France striker Saha retires

Former France international striker Louis Saha announced his retirement from professional football on his 35th birthday.

Saha spent most of his career in England after moving from Metz, playing for Newcastle United, Fulham, Manchester United, Everton, Spurs, Sunderland before leaving for Lazio early this year, reports Xinhua.

"I want to thank all managers, all staff, all teammates, all opponents and all fans for the support and love they have given me during my career," he said Thursday.

Saha joined Fulham in 2000 and scored 64 goals in 144 games and led them to promotion to the Premier League.

He moved to Manchester United in January 2004 and spent four- and-a-half years at Old Trafford, scoring 42 goals in 124 appearances, before adding 35 goals in 115 games with Everton.
