Nepal's former prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Friday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who assured him that India was fully committed to supporting Nepal in its reconstruction effort in the wake of the devastating April earthquake.

According to a PMO release, Modi commended the people of Nepal for their resilience in facing the grave tragedy.

The release said that Deuba briefed the prime minister on the developments relating to adoption of a new constitution in Nepal.

"The prime minister appreciated the recent progress and expressed hope that outstanding issues would be resolved at the earliest, so that the constitution that is adopted enjoys the support of all sections of the society and helps build an inclusive, stable and prosperous Nepal," the release said.

Deuba thanked Modi for India's quick reaction and assistance in the aftermath of two powerful earthquakes in Nepal.

While a powerful earthquake rocked Nepal on April 25, another quake hit the country in May.

Deuba appreciated India's pledge of $1 billion announced at the donors' conference in Kathmandu in June 2015.
