Former Spanish motorcycle racer Sito Pons will be investigated by a court for alleged tax fraud amounting to 445,000 euros ($493,000), court documents said on Thursday.
A judge in a Barcelona court gave the go-ahead to an official investigation into the tax affairs of the former Grand Prix rider and two-time 250cc World Champion (1988-1989), reports Efe.
According to Spain's Prosecutor, Pons had since 1988 claimed his residence was outside Spain -- first in Monaco and then in the United Kingdom -- when, in fact, he lived most of the time at his Barcelona home address.
After retiring, Pons created the MotoGP Honda-Pons Racing team.
