Former UP minister surrenders in court

Former Uttar Pradesh minister Avadh Pal Singh Yadav who was wanted in many cases finally surrendered before the Etah court on Monday along with his son, an accused in eight cases.

Yadav, the ex-Dairy and Animal Husbandry minister in the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party government, was wanted in a triple murder case, attempt to rape and was booked under the Gangster Act.

He had won from the Aliganj seat in Aligarh on a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) ticket in 2007.

Yadav, who had a warrant issued against his name, surrendered on Monday before the court of senior divisional judge Chandrapal.

He surrendered along with his son Ranjit Singh, an accused in eight cases.

The former minister was wanted in nine cases, ranging from attempted murder to attempted rape. The Lokayukta had also recommended action against Yadav for arm- twisting many government hospitals to give work to his favoured contractors.
