Four people, including an engineering student, were arrested Saturday in Bhubaneswar for gang-raping a student of a city college after luring her on the internet, police said.
The crime took place Thursday in a forested area of Nayagarh district, about 80 km from the state capital Bhubaneswar. It, however, came to light after the 19-year-old victim lodged a complaint next day with the police in Bhubaneswar where she stays.
The main accused - Santosh Panigrahi, 25 - is an engineering college student in Bhubaneswar. He came in contact with the girl over phone and social networking site Facebook few weeks ago.
On the ruse of taking her to his native village, Panigrahi took the victim on his bike. He asked three of his friends -- Daka, Bhaskar and Sadananda -- to follow him in a car, inspector in-charge of Mahila police station, Sarojini Nayak, told IANS.
After a short visit to his village Kurala in the Nayagarh district, Panigrahi allegedly took her to a nearby forest for sight-seeing where the four allegedly raped her.
The offenders later dropped her at her Bhubaneswar house, Nayak said. They all belong to the same village, Nayak said.
