Four held for Rs.10 crore extortion bid in Gurgaon

Four youth were arrested here after a gunbattle for trying to extort Rs. 10 crore from a Congress party leader, police said Monday.

Harish Adhlakha, from Gurgaon's Palam Vihar area, Lalit from Darbhanga, Bihar, Aman from District Kangra in Himachal Pradesh and Harish alias Hari from District Almora in Uttrakhand were arrested from sector 56 here after a brief gun battle Sunday night.

The accused were Monday produced in the court which sent them to police custody for two days.

All four are aged around 25.

"The mastermind Harish Adhlakha hatched the plan after watching crime-based serials on television," joint police commissioner (crime) Vivek Sharma told reporters.

He roped in Aman, Lalit and Harish promising to pay Rs. 3 lakh to each.

Aman, who worked for a finance company, managed to get mobile SIM cards on fake identities.

Adhlakha visited the house of former district Congress president Madan Lal Grover nearly a month ago for purchasing one of his cars and planned to target him.

"The accused threatened Grover to kill him and his son if he did not pay Rs. 10 crore. They made over 60 phone calls, first on Aug 20," Sharma said.

Eleven SIM cards, eight phone sets, two pistols, a car and bike were recovered from their possession.
