Mont-Saint-Michel, an island commune in France, was evacuated on Sunday after an unidentified man threatened to attack policemen, according to police sources.
Dozens of police officers were deployed in Mont-Saint-Michel after a man threatened to 'kill cops', Sputnik News reported.
The Mayor of Mont-Saint-Michele confirmed that paramilitary police officers are currently looking for a suspect who shouted--'I will kill the cops'.
According to eyewitnesses, a helicopter flew over the scene.
"We were at the hotel and were asked to evacuate Mont-Saint-Michel. I could see that the shops were closed and everyone was evacuated," said a tourist.
Military police were conducting raids in the surrounding areas, though there were fears that the man had camouflaged himself among the tourists and left Mont-Saint-Michel, Efe news reported.
Mont-Saint-Michel, Normandy's most popular tourist site, receives three million visitors each year and has been on Unesco's world heritage list since 1979.
