Georgia claims 2 golds in European judo championships

Budapest, April 26 (IANS) Georgia claimed two gold medals on the opening day of the 2013 European Judo Championships here.

Hungary, France and Russia each earned a gold medal Thursday, reports Xinhua.

In the men's 60kg final, Amiran Papinashvili of Georgia defeated Ludovic Chammartin of Switzerland. Artiom Arshansky of Israel and Ashley McKenzie of Britain claimed the bronze.

In the men's 66kg final, Olympic champion Lasha Shavdatuashvili of Georgia subdued Kamal Khan-Magomedov of Russia. The bronze went to Dimitri Dragin and David Larose of France.

In the final of the women's 48kg, Hungarian Olympic bronze medalist Eva Csernovicki defeated Belgian Charline van Snick. Laetitia Payet of Frence and Ebru Sahin of Turkey took the bronze.

Natalia Kuzyutina from Russia beat defending champion Andreea Chitu from Romania to win the women's 52kg title, with Laura Gomez of Spain and Majlinda Kelmendi of the International Judo Federation sharing the third place.

The women's 57kg crown was won by Automne Pavia of France, who overcame Sabrina Filzmoser of Austria in the final. Telma Monteiro of Portugal and Irina Zabludina of Russia shared the bronze.
