The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has officially launched the country's participation in the 2018 Commonwealth Games to be held in Gold Coast, Australia.

Ghana will be represented by 50 athletes who will be participating in some 12 sporting disciplines for honours at the Games contested among nations that are members of the Commonwealth, reports Xinhua news agency.

Ghana's Minister for Youth and Sports Isaac Kwame Asiamah on Tuesday pledged the government's support for the Ghanaian contingent for the Games which will take place from April 4-15 next year.

He said the ministry was happy that the GOC was willing to partner the government to facilitate Ghana's athletes, and appealed to corporate bodies to contribute to raise the standard of sports in Ghana.

GOC President Ben Nunoo Mensah said his outfit would work hard to ensure that more Ghanaian athletes qualified for the 21st edition of the Games and win laurels for the country.

Ghana has participated in almost all Commonwealth Games after attaining independence in 1957.
