Ghanaian defender Baba Abdul-Rahman has left for Germany to undergo further tests and possible surgery for a knee injury he suffered at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Gabon, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced.

The GFA took the decision on Thursday in consultation with his German club, Schalke, after tests were carried out on the injury in the Gabonese capital of Libreville, reports Xinhua news agency.

The left-back suffered the knee problem during the Black Stars' 1-0 win over Uganda in Group D of the competition.

With no MRI facilities in Port Gentil, the Black Stars player had to travel to Librevile for the tests to be carried out before the full extent of injury was determined.

The side's medical team revealed that the defender suffered "a rupture of the meniscus and a particular tear of the anterior cruciate ligament with fluid collection in the left knee," according to a release issued by the federation.

Rahman was accompanied by a Ghana team official on the journey to Germany.
