Ghaziabad District Magistrate (DM) Ritu Maheswari distributed free sanitary napkins to girls at an awareness programme organised for the women of 35 village panchayats.
District Information Officer (DIO) Ranjana Sharma said the DM organised an awareness programme for 35 village panchayats at Masuri town of Ghaziabad. She requested women not to hesitate in using sanitary napkins as it is related to their health. She also distributed free napkins to girls there.
Addressing the gathering, the DM said most girls drop out of schools as soon as menstruation begins. "This should not happen. We must understand that menstruation is natural thing."
"Girls hesitation is pushing them towards illiteracy," she asserted.
The DM also assured women to supply sanitary napkins at a nominal cost.
