A seven-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and killed by a man in West Bengal and police suspect she was raped before being strangulated, an officer said on Sunday.
The incident took place on Friday night in North Dinajpur district's Rarira village.
Police arrested the accused on Saturday after locals discovered the body and informed them.
"We have arrested the accused. He was presented before a court today (Sunday) which remanded him to police custody for five days," Superintendent of Police Syed Waquar Raza said.
"Until the autopsy reports come, we cannot say if the girl was raped. Prima facie, it appears the victim was subjected to sexual assault before being strangulated," Raza said.
