A businessman from south Goa was detained with around Rs 12 lakh, mainly comprising Rs 100 and Rs 500 notes, at the Goa-Karnataka border, police said on Monday.
The businessman, identified as Shahbaaz Husain, was detained in Morlem, 60 km from here, on the basis of a tip off, a police spokesperson said.
"We received a tip that he was coming to Goa from Belgaum (in Karnataka) with a large sum of currency notes. He was trapped by our border checkpost team. We have asked the Income Tax officials in Goa to question him. No formal complaint has been registered," the spokesperson added.
