Congress President Sonia Gandhi Saturday evoked divine interference to "save" India from the Gujarat model of development.
Slamming the Gujarat model of development, promoted by BJP's prime ministerial candidate and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, the Congress president said those earning more than Rs.11 per day, were not above the poverty line in the state.
"There are many villages (in Gujarat) where people do not even get drinking water. Children suffer from malnutrition," Sonia Gandhi said at an election rally here.
"Those who get more than Rs.11 a day are not below the poverty line in Modi's Gujarat...45,000 acres of land were given away to only one industrialist..."
"I would say, oh god, save the country from such a model," said the Congress president.
