Uruguayan Diego Godin led Atletico Madrid to 1-0 victory against Tottenham Hotspur in the first friendly of the Spanish football club's Australian tour.
Atletico, just a day and a half after landing in Melbourne, showed good form with only three changes during the game and a team that kept its identity, defensive reliability and maximum return on their chances against a Tottenham which had chances, but stumbled on the Slovenian agile goalkeeper Jan Oblak, reports Efe.
Simeone opted for a 4-4-2 start, with Godin, Montenegrin Stefan Savic and Brazilian Filipe Luis with the Croatian Sime Vrsaljko in defense, a midfield led by Portuguese Tiago Mendes with Saul Niguez, Gabi and Ghanaian Thomas, and Hector Hernandez accompanying Fernando Torres in the attack.
The goal was score by Godin with a free kick before the end of the first half.
