Also known as the "Milkman of India", Kurien made India the world's largest milk producer, an upliftment from being a milk-deficient country.
Celebrating his 94th birth anniversary, Google showed Kurien on its homepage with a can of milk in his hand.
Due to Kurien sheer efforts, the dairy farming became India's largest self-sufficient industry.
He successfully set up institutions of excellence such as AMUL, GCMMF, IRMA, NDDB which are owned, controlled by farmers and run by professionals.
As a founding founding chairman of the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), his biggest creation is Amul brand of daily products.
He was appointed as founder-chairman of National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) in 1965 by the then prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri
He died at the age of 90 on September 9, 2012 in Nadiad, Gujarat.
