Internet giant Google on Tuesday launched two new smartphones - Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X - priced at $499 and $379 respectively.

While Google choose to partner with Chinese telecommunications equipment and services company Huawei for the Nexus 6P, it had retained LG as a partner for the Nexus 5X.

The two new devices will come with Type-C USB, fingerprint sensor, large 1.55-micron pixels camera sensor and will run the latest Android operating system Marshmallow.

"There's also a new fingerprint sensor called Nexus Imprint which will also open up fingerprint recognition to the entire app ecosystem. Once trained, the sensor can recognise fingerprints in less than 600 milliseconds, and it learns more about fingerprints over time to get more accurate," Google said.

The Nexus 6P, which has a 5.7-inch screen running at 1,440 pixels resolution along with 518 pixels per inch support, comes comes with a 12.3-megapixel rear camera with a f/2.0 aperture and laser auto-focus. "Both phones have been developed in such a way that they can take better photos indoors and low-light conditions. We have achieved this with the large 1.55 micron pixels sensor," a company spokesperson said.

The Internet giant has also introduced a new burst mode and a slow motion video mode. The 6P runs 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor with a 3GB RAM unit. Although there will be no expandable storage, the 6P will be available in 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB configurations.

The 6P, which is available for pre-order with several offers, is priced at $499 for a 32GB model and will start shipping in October. The company will also extend Project Fi support on the phones.

The company also announced a new Nexus Protect programme for $89 that would provide two years of coverage for both mechanical problems and accidental damage. "You'll be able to get a replacement phone as quickly as the next business day, and you'll be able to file a claim 24 hours a day," said a company spokesperson.

Both the phones will be available for pre-order in select countries including US, Britain, Japan and Ireland starting Tuesday.
