The government has adopted a national policy for empowerment of women with the objective of bringing about their advancement, development and empowerment, the Rajya Sabha was informed Monday.
The government's policies and programmes are all directed towards achieving inclusive growth, with special focus on women, Women and Child Development Minister Krishna Tirath said in a written reply.
The government adopted the National Policy for Empowerment of Women in March 2001 with the objective of bringing about development and empowerment of women and to eliminate discrimination against them, she said.
The government has also constituted a high-level committee for a study on the status of women in India since 1989.
The study will include measures including appropriate policy interventions based on a contemporary assessment of women's needs.
