Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Tuesday accused the Narendra Modi government of misusing CBI to question her in the alleged NRHM scam in Uttar Pradesh, saying she had nothing to do with the issue which is being probed by the agency since 2011.

Talking to reporters here, Mayawati said she had been told by an officer of the Central Bureau of Investigation on Monday evening that that they want to ask her questions related to National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) controversy.

She said that CBI deciding to question her "without reason" was result of "political vendatta and conspiracy", and also alleged that the news had been leaked to the media.

"The BJP is using its old tactics and is misusing the CBI to question me after four years in the NRHM issue even as both the BJP and CBI know I have nothing to do with the issue," Mayawati said.

The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister said that CBI was free to investigate her.

Alleging that the BJP was trying to demoralise her and her party workers, she asserted that she will not be cowed down.

"The people understand that Narendra Modi government will not desist from misusing CBI to hide its failures," Mayawati said.

She said Congress had also misused the CBI in the past.

Media reports had said that CBI would examine Mayawati to unearth the larger conspiracy in the NRHM controversy.

The CBI had last December filed three charge sheets in three separate cases in connection with alleged irregularities in upgradation of 134 hospitals in UP under the NRHM.

Referring to RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's remarks concerning quotas, she said if the Modi government tinkered with reservation, the BSP will launch a nationwide protest.
