West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday remembered the Delhi gang rape victim and said the government should stand by her family.
It was on this day -- December 16 -- in 2012 that the gang rape took place which sent shockwaves across the country.
"Remembering Nirbhaya on 3rd anniversary of brutal Delhi incident. We cannot compensate her loss but govt must stand by her family in every way," Banerjee tweeted.
Five adults and a juvenile had brutally assaulted and raped the 23-year-old physiotherapy intern inside a moving bus in Munirka in south Delhi. She died 13 days later on December 29 at a Singapore hospital.
As a recognition, the media called her 'Nirbhaya' (courageous).
