The home ministry is examining a letter by some NGOs and political parties seeking a judicial probe in the snooping controversy concerning the Gujarat government, Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said Tuesday.
"We are examining that matter," Shinde said in reply to a query if the government was taking any action on the letter written by the non-governmental organisations. Shinde was addressing his customary monthly media interaction here.
NGOs and women leaders from political parties, including the Congress and Communist Party of India, had met President Pranab Mukherjee last month seeking a judicial probe into the controversy.
The president's office sent the signed letters to the home ministry.
Two news portals, Cobrapost and Gulail, had claimed last month that former Gujarat home minister Amit Shah had ordered illegal surveillance of a woman at the behest of a "saheb".
The Gujarat government has already ordered a probe into the issue.

Shinde also said that India has asked for extradition of jailed United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) leader Anup Chetia from Bangladesh.
Asked about the Supreme Court's directions that red beacon lights without flashers would only be used on vehicles of high constitutional functionaries, Shinde said he had not seen the decision.
"After it is seen, we will give our reply," he said.
Asked about the probe into funds of the Aam Aadmi Party, he said the inquiry was not complete, and the probe was being done on the directions of a court.
