The government has been keeping a constant eye on China over its activities in the Indian Ocean, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said on Tuesday.
In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, the minister said the government was not aware of any base established in Seychelles by China.
"As per the information available, no naval base has been established by China in Seychelles," Parrikar said.
"However, the government is aware of Chinese participation in development projects in the Indian Ocean region and keeps a constant watch on all developments concerning our national security," he said.
The minister said: "Modernisation of the Indian Navy to create capability for future threats and challenges is an ongoing process."
