Gunmen on Monday looted over Rs 12 lakh, comprising most new and withdrawn high-denomination notes from a Jammu and Kashmir Bank branch in the state's Badgam district, police said.
"Four unidentified gunmen entered the Malpora branch of the Jammu and Kashmir Bank Ltd near Chrar-e-Sharief town in Badgam and looted Rs.12.89 lakhs at gunpoint, from the bank," a senior police officer told IANS here.
"The looted amount contained high value currency notes including the newly issued Rs 2,000 and withdrawn Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes," the officer said, adding that a "manhunt has been launched to nab the robbers".
