Police here on Thursday launched a community policing initiative in which 33 corporates, including DLF, PepsiCo India, Maruti Suzuki, Convergys and MakeMyTrip, committed themselves to providing financial, technical and skill support to make the city safer for the people.
The "Community Policing 2.0" laid the foundation of a police-private partnership, which will later take the form of a Society for a Safe Gurgaon (SSG).
The proposed society will be managed by a specially constituted group of people drawn from various corporate houses, the community at large and professionals.
"There is a huge deficiency in the quality and quantity of resources available to address the common problems of safety and traffic in the city. This initiative will address these issues in a collaborative, inclusive manner with a little help from corporates," said Commissioner of Police Navdeep Singh Virk.
"The ultimate aim is to improve safety in Gurgaon's world class infrastructure and adopt best practices in policing that would reflect a truly millennium standard police force," he said.
DLF contributed Rs.1 crore as initial support to the project.
