Gurgaon judges inspect women hostel, find irregularities

Two Gurgaon judges inspected the working women's hostel here and found many irregularities, an official said Wednesday.

Harnam Singh Thakur, District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman District Legal Services Authority Gurgaon, along with Suruchi Atreja Singh, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Gurgaon Tuesday night conducted a surprise inspection of Working Women's Hostel at Civil Lines here.

It is the only government-run women hostel and is maintained by the Red Cross Society, Gurgaon.

Urmil Raies, warden of the hostel could not show any record of inmates of the hostel and could produce only entry and exit register.

"It was told that nearly 35 women stay in the hostel but there are no security arrangements ," the official said.

"There were no campus lights and the place was found to be dark. There was no light even in the security guards room," he said.

"The building was found to be damaged at several places and plaster had come off and the same needed urgent repair...," he added.

The warden told the judges that she had written repeatedly about the problems of the hostel but no action had been taken by authorities.

The tubewell motor was not functional for the past 6 months and the inmate complained of shortage of water.

The hostel lacked basic amenities such as newspapers, telephone, and had shortage of staff.

Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner T.L. Satyaprakash said that the action will be taken and conditions in the hostel improved soon.
