Gurgaon police collects Rs 76.6 lakh from traffic violators in 20 days

Gurgaon traffic police have collected nearly Rs 76.6 lakh from motorists in the last 20 days -- an average of Rs almost Rs 400,000 a day -- for violating traffic rules, police said on Wednesday.

A Special Enforcement Drive against errant drivers was kicked off in Gurgaon on August 17, the day when new police Chief Sandeep Khirwar took charge.

Until Wednesday, a total of 34,141 motorists were fined for breaking rules.

Police towed 1,782 vehicles for wrong parking, 3,552 vehicle owners were fined for wrong side parking and 2,019 for wrong side driving.

Police said 2,928 vehicles were impounded of which 2,425 were auto rickshaws and 377 were taxis.

Police said that the drive was carried out in crowded areas including M.G. Road, Cyber City, HUDA City Centre, M.G. Road Metro Station, Sohna Road, Old Delhi Road and Udyog Bihar.
